Election Fever
The world, as reported by local dailies, is officially nuts. There's no way you can escape from election news, national or international.
*yawn*
It amuses me no end to see the politicians' panicky rush to secure votes at the last minute. As if garish buntings and posters covering every available surface will help us decide whom to vote for... And those things are really a nuisance because they're wrapped around signposts and dangle from every conceivable place, blocking roadusers' sight. That's a great way to secure votes, really!!!
As if eleventh hour (and fifty ninth minute) propa- uhh, sorry, broadcasting- of respective good deeds will change anything.
If you're really good, you'd not have to worry about your track record. If you're really good, you don't have to do last minute 'good deeds' to secure constituents' votes because they'd already know you've been doing them all along.
As far as I'm concerned, actions speak louder than words, and consistent actions during those years in between elections count most.
Promises of regular trash-collection in exchange for votes? Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but isn't that supposed to be a basic right? We want to be a modern country, always moving forward, but if we vote for the wrong people, our trash won't be collected on time. Right.
It's funny. Promising a regular trash-collection, but once the election's over, the buntings, posters, et al will still be in place, left to disintegrate naturally with Nature's help.
If one can't even clean up after one's self, how can one run a country?

But the thing is... For the "normal" person who is not well informed about politics, it is only normal to feel that the party with the most number of buntings and posters is probably bigger, better and stronger. Hence, it should be "logically" more trustworthy, economically sound and capable.
That's why there should be a controlled fairness, accountability and transparency when it comes to campaign funding.
If any party has an uncontrolled, obscene amount of money to splash on election campaigns, "normal" people who can't see above it can get obscenely skewed in their perspective.
Well, call me crazy, but the more a product is advertised, the more I'll feel that there's something wrong with it. Otherwise, why push so hard?
