If God Exists, Why Is There Evil?
But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living...
Most unbelievers love throwing this question at Christians whenever the topic of God's existence crops up - Why is there evil in this world if God indeed exists? Or some other variant, like Why does God allow evil?
It's a good question.
Well, I ask one question in return - Have they made God the Master of their lives? If they have not, then how can they expect God to be Master of the world?
God made Man to rule over the Earth. He left us a degree of freedom in doing this. God gave us free will.
How we choose to exercise this freedom determines the course this world will follow. If Hitler had truly known Jesus, and experienced fellowship with Jesus, do you think he would've done what he did?
If Jesus is not the Master of your own life, don't start blaming God for what happens in the world. By your very inactivity, you have played a hand in bringing it about too!
God works through us. If we sit by and do nothing, how do you expect God to move?
As Joshua asked the Israelites to choose whom they would serve so many millennia ago, so it is today. Whom do we serve?
Unfortunately, most men have chosen to make Self, or Money, or Power the masters of their life. They serve the 'gods' of this world, who are ultimately under the authority of Satan.
They exercise free will under these idols' directions. Is it any wonder, then, that this world is full of evil?
So why did God create evil anyway?
Easy. He didn't.
As darkness is an absence of light, so evil is the absence of God.
Whom do you choose to serve? Choose wisely, for this choice will determine how the world is run. It's a choice between good and evil. This choice, very literally, is between Life and Death.
...But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.~Joshua 24:15
