Jesus Wept

When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled...Jesus wept. - John 11:33&35

Jesus wept.

I am struck afresh by this revelation. Our Perfect Savior shed not only His precious blood for us, he also cried for us.

He shared the pain felt by the relatives and friends of Lazarus. He was deeply moved by their grief.

As perfect man and Son of God, He could have easily raised Lazarus from the dead without shedding a tear. Since He knew He had the power to raise the dead, He could have just said to the weeping crowd "Hey, don't cry, watch what I'm about to do!" and - ta-daa! - raised Lazarus, then stood back and smiled at the crowd's amazement.

Instead, our wonderful Savior wept.

This shows that He felt grief for His friends. And, as Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, we can rest assured that He identifies with the suffering we go through in our lives!!!

When we cry, Jesus cries with us. He understands us, every single hurt we experience. And that, much more than anything else, is a great comfort - that we have in Him a friend who understands what we're facing, who listens to our problems, who cries with us.

Our God is not some impersonal God who watches impassively over the world, seated arrogantly on a throne in Heaven far above our reach, higher than we could ever dream.

No. Our God is a personal, loving friend; a God who came to die for our sins so that we will never be alienated, never be alone.

Our God is a God who cries with us!
